September Reads: 11 Books, Four Graves, and Zero Regrets

Kimberly Elliott

September was a reading month with a clear theme: when a series grabs me, I don't let go. Eleven books finished, a run through of more of the Charley Davidson series, and a handful of romantasy and romance picks sprinkled in around it.

Here's everything I read this month.

Charley Davidson Series

Four books in a row from Darynda Jones, which tells you everything about how this series pulls you in. If you want to see what a grim reaper with a talent for trouble gets up to, this is the one to start with.

Books four through seven follow grim reaper and private investigator Charley Davidson as she tackles increasingly dangerous supernatural cases, uncovers secrets about her growing powers, and becomes more deeply entangled with the irresistible Reyes Farrow. Between demons, murders, family drama, and enemies determined to use her abilities, Charley relies on caffeine, sarcasm, and her loyal friends to survive—while her complicated romance with Reyes grows hotter and more dangerous.

  • Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet by Darynda Jones
  • Fifth Grave Past the Light by Darynda Jones
  • Sixth Grave on the Edge by Darynda Jones
  • Seventh Grave and No Body by Darynda Jones

Good Day for Chardonnay by Darynda Jones

Small-town sheriff Sunshine Vicram wants one peaceful day filled with coffee, donuts, and perhaps a little chardonnay. Instead, she gets a violent bar fight, a daughter hunting a serial killer, a relentless raccoon, and new clues about her own mysterious abduction. Those clues may lead to dangerous local distiller Levi Ravinder—the frustratingly attractive man Sunshine is convinced is not the villain of her story.

On Burning Paths: A Romantasy Reverse Harem Romance (Shield of the Gods, Book 2) by Lacey Anderson

The gods’ deadly trials are becoming crueler, forcing one determined heroine to fight beside a brooding half god, a protective berserker, and a dangerously charming vampire. What began as an alliance for survival soon grows into a powerful and forbidden bond. With secrets unraveling and everything they love at stake, the four must survive the gods’ games—or lose their freedom, their future, and one another.

The Three Wishes by TB Wolfe

Sheltered behind her powerful father’s gates, Alessia Marzano has spent her life questioning the choices made for her protection. When mysterious Nico Vale appears with her murdered mother’s brass lighter, he offers her three nights of freedom—and a warning about the man she is expected to marry. As Alessia follows the clues her mother left behind, she uncovers dangerous family secrets that force her to choose whom she can trust and risk everything to write her own ending.

Adversary to the Villain by Hannah Maehrer

Evie has always been helpful, loyal, and only slightly treasonous—but a dangerous prophecy now threatens Rennedawn’s magic and keeps pointing directly at her. As she races to recover powerful artifacts before King Benedict, the Villain’s magic continues choosing her, pushing Evie deeper into an increasingly convincing villain era. Meanwhile, her dangerously irresistible boss, Trystan, is drawing closer and expecting her to choose his side. If Evie cannot save the kingdom’s magic, she may become the greatest threat it has ever faced.

Aurora Over Caldara (The Gilded Atlas Billionaires) by Kay Stroker

Billionaire Alexander Caldwell needs a respectable relationship to satisfy his company’s board, and elite matchmaker Mira Pemberton is determined not to become another thing he can buy. But when they’re stranded together at a luxurious Dolomite retreat, their professional arrangement turns dangerously personal. After paparazzi expose their growing connection and an engagement is announced, hidden motives threaten their fragile trust—forcing Alexander to choose between protecting his carefully controlled reputation and risking everything for the woman who refuses to be owned.

Tasting Red by Holly Roberds

After being expelled from the Fairy Fine Arts Academy, Red wants nothing more than a quiet, magic-free life. But when her grandmother disappears and a dangerous, heavily scarred wolf shifter appears in her bedroom, Red becomes the target of a deadly hunt. Forced to rely on the intimidating werewolf sworn to protect her, she must face her past, survive the chaos closing in, and resist the growing attraction between them.

Eleven books down, and my TBR is somehow longer than when I started.
